Hungarian Gore Grind band Paediatrician released their first full length 2011 album “Deformed Premature”. I was so lucky to get my hands on a copy for review.
Not that I was asked to do a review, but I heard some good things about them, asked around and “Deformed Premature” definitely delivers.
The musical style is Gore Grind, but has strong Brutal Death Metal leanings. It is right on that edge.
The pig squeals, it’s the pig squeals!!!!
Yes that’s right. I define Gore Grind by whether it has pig squeals or not. I think it’s a key element in the current development of the genre, as are distorted vocals in general. Who isn’t attracted to Gore Grind because of it? Paediatrician uses it to their advantage.
The intro to the album is very powerful. The traditional intro movie clip is followed by a crazing blast of ultra fast drumming and string pulling. “Survive This” might as well be the best track on the album.
As the album progresses you will hear that the expectation created with such a strong opening doesn’t guarantee an album full of great Gore Grind moments. The album sinks in a bit and “Deformed Premature” looses some strength of character as the tracks continue to plough through subjects of torture, intense suffering, decay and death.
The album holds steady between fast blasting power and the oh so welcome hoompa, hoompa, slam!! “Deformed Premature” is very consistent but lacks album defining tunes.
There is nothing to worry about though, because Paediatrician is nearing the quality of a band like Eardelete who are definitely entitled to call themselves Goregrind Masters.
So there you have it.
If you are into Goregrind then this is an excellent addition to your growing collection.
“Deformed Premature” is 13 tracks in less than 35 minutes including three cover songs originally played by Mortician, Rotten Sound and Rompeprop.
